Therapy that invites the tender places in you to begin unfolding towards the light.
About Elizabeth
We could be a good fit for working together if :
You desire less tension and more authentic connection in your life, but you’re not sure how to make changes without negatively impacting the people around you.
You want to respond with clarity and compassion in difficult moments—rather than the over-the-top reactions that erupt out of you—but you’re not sure how to do this when you’re flooded with painful feelings.
There has been a rupture in a valuable relationship you desperately want to mend, but you can’t find the words to even begin the conversation.
Deep down, you know you can’t continue to operate like this, but fear and worry slams into you anytime you try to imagine creating a different future.
I’m Elizabeth, a therapist who works with deeply-feeling people who have been carrying too much for too long. They are ready to cross the threshold to expand into a more sustainable and joyful way of being in the world.
My clients desire a life that contains greater ease and a deeper sense of connection. They care deeply for others, but often find themselves walking on eggshells around the people they love. They are articulate and self-aware, and yet find it difficult to speak about their needs in a way that their loved ones can hear. I often hear, “I feel invisible in my own life.”
I help people get clear on what they want to continue to nourish in their lives, and what they are ready to prune away in order to allow for new growth.
I offer evidence-based approaches that promote post-traumatic growth following difficult experiences, and I bring a relationship-oriented lens to the radical belief that we all deserve vibrant, balanced, and joyful relationships–with ourselves and with others.
Therapy Specializations
My diverse training in experiential therapy models offers tailored approaches to healing and growth, ensuring personalized support for every individual's journey.

EMDR and ART are evidence-based therapeutic models that help people recover and heal from painful experiences that continue to impact their lives negatively. Both modalities work to diminish the distressing impact of difficult experiences by tapping into the brain’s natural drive for integration and balance. EMDR and ART work well for single-event traumas, recurring traumas, and distressing childhood experiences.

Narrative therapy is a powerful therapeutic tool that offers a safe space to explore thoughts, feelings, and experiences that may be difficult to express otherwise. Writing and sharing your story can give voice to your inner experiences, help you gain clarity, and uncover meaning in your struggles. Writing can also create a healthy distance from overwhelming emotions, allowing for deeper reflection, insight, and healing.

Equine Therapy utilizes the power of relationship and connection to support people who want to heal from traumatic events, learn more about regulating their emotions in healthy ways, and develop skills that foster mutually beneficial relationships.
I am certified in Equine Therapy from two primary thought leaders in the field of equine therapy: Eagala and Natural Lifemanship (NL). Certification in Eagala and NL demonstrates years of focused learning in the field.
Eagala is a strengths-based program designed to empower clients to deepen their relational and communication skills via experiential interactions with horses.
Natural Lifemanship (NL) offers a trauma-informed equine therapy model that explores the influence of relationships formed early in life on one’s intimate connections in adulthood. NL offers experiential interventions to help people who want to heal from painful events, learn how to shift negative patterns that no longer serve them well, and engage in meaningful relationship repair.

For Equine Therapy offerings, I partner with the herd at Horse Sense of the Carolinas, an internationally-recognized Equine Therapy facility situated on 110 rolling acres in Marshall, NC.
Equine Therapy can be incorporated into EMDR/ART and Parent-Focused Therapy Intensives, and can also be a stand-alone experiential offering for those desiring deep therapeutic work alongside the healing presence of horses.

Attachment-focused parenting focuses on building a secure, trusting relationship between parent and child. It emphasizes emotional attunement, responsiveness, and connection as the foundation for healthy development. By meeting a child’s needs with sensitivity and consistency, parents foster confidence, empathy, and healthy independence.
I entered the field of Clinical Mental Health Counseling as a second career, after working in healthcare to support people who were figuring out their ‘new normal’ after life-changing events. In various roles over two decades, I observed that whereas most client’s physical injuries and impairments were acknowledged by the medical establishment, there was a stunning absence of meaningful support with regard to their emotional and mental health.
My Journey
Something I knew deep in my bones was that our life experiences were woven into our bodies, hearts, and minds. I wanted to learn more about addressing health and wellness through a lens that invited integration of our physical, mental, and emotional selves. And so, off to graduate school I went, and in 2019, Weller Counseling was brought into being. In my private practice, I focus on supporting people in their journey of healing and post-traumatic growth following difficult and distressing seasons in their lives. I am also honored to serve as a Writer-in-Residence with Brothers and Sisters Like These, a non-profit devoted to supporting the mental health of veterans through creative writing and the fine arts.
When I’m not working, I can usually be found playing outdoors or reading a book on my front porch. I enjoy hiking with my Great Dane and my Chihuahua, spending time with horses, and hanging out at my favorite coffee shops. I love the vibrant food and music scene of Asheville, and one of my greatest pleasures is to introduce people to the eclectic mountain towns of Western North Carolina through curated therapy intensive retreats.
